Hollywood movie star Cate Blanchett (Tár, Carol, Blue Jasmine, The Aviator) is at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival promoting her new movie, The New Boy, with director and screenwriter Warwick Thornton. See set photos below.
The drama, which is set in the 1940s Australia, follows a 9-year-old Aboriginal orphan boy “who arrives in the dead of night at a remote monastery run by a renegade nun (Blanchett).”
While in Cannes, Blanchett ditched her nun habit and turned heads (in a stunning bodysuit with a deep plunging neckline and plaid suit by Louis Vuitton) when she attended a retrospective event for director Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, Carol). See photos above and below.
As one fan replied: “It should be illegal to be this damn hot in that outfit.”
Haynes is in Cannes to also promote his new film, May December. It stars his muse, actress Julianne Moore (Safe), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), and Charlie Melton (Riverdale).
Get ready to see more of Blanchett: The New Boy will be released in the U.S. on July 6.
After filming the movie, Blanchett told The Hollywood Reporter: “My worldview has been shifted in ways beyond articulation by the films Warwick has made. He’s a singular, mercurial filmmaker, yet there is a beguiling universality to the stories he chooses to tell. He is, quite simply, one of Australia’s greats.”
