Hillary Clinton is among a multitude of public figures calling for increased gun control measures after two more mass shooting rocked the nation in recent weeks, including the tragic deaths of three children at a school in Nashville, Tennessee. Clinton, the former Secretary of State and the 2016 Democratic nominee for president, has long pushed for gun control.
In the tweet below, Clinton claims measures put in place during Bill Clinton‘s administration were effective in reducing mass shootings.
We had an assault weapons ban from 1994-2004 that prohibited the manufacture or sale for civilian use of certain semi-automatic weapons and banned magazines with 10 rounds or more.

Mass shootings dropped during that decade.
We did it once and should do it again.
[NOTE: The ban to which Clinton refers, officially called the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 13, 1994, and it prohibited the manufacture, sale, and possession of certain types of semi-automatic firearms that were defined as “assault weapons.” The ban also included restrictions on high-capacity magazines that could hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban had a sunset provision that caused it to expire on September 13, 2004, and it was not renewed by Congress.]
Blasting “MAGA Republicans” who she says offer mere “thoughts and prayers” as a solution when mass shootings occur, Clinton believes that the current GOP, with many members reliant on large donations from the NRA, are preventing Americans from receiving protections they want.
When it comes to gun violence, MAGA Republicans are clear: they’re “not gonna fix it.” https://t.co/gNuOXA6TWf

Clinton’s aim at MAGA may be largely on target, but Utah Sen. Mitt Romney and other Republicans who aren’t MAGA adherents also resist gun control measures.
There have been 135 mass shootings so far this year in America.

It’s barely April.

Clinton asserts that the current crop of Supreme Court justices and congressmembers don’t measure up to the past occupants of those positions, who she says would not believe the current stalemate on guns. Today’s Congress and Supreme Court, she says, are “shameful” in their failure to provide more protections for children against mass shooters.
Clinton writes: “Neither our Founders—nor prior generations of Supreme Court Justices or members of Congress—would believe what is being done to our children in the name of the Bill of Rights. Shameful.”
