With the photos above and below for the Financial Times weekend magazine How to Spend It, Watson and her brother, Alex Watson, announce that they’re launching a premium gin, Renais, which is made with “upcycled grapes” and “inspired by terroir and tradition.” The subtitle of the article is “Why Emma Watson is Joining the Family Business.”
[Note: “terroir” is a French term used to describe the environmental factors that affect a crop’s phenotype (climate, soil, elevation, farming practices, et al.)]
FTHSI reports that in its exclusive interview with the Watsons, Emma talks about Hollywood and growing up in a family “obsessed with wine, food and the culture around it.” They quote the actress as saying: “Dad had been giving me water with wine at lunch since I was a child. So I was quite confused when I was a teenager and everyone thought alcohol was this forbidden fruit.”
With the photos above, FTHTSI reveals how to pronounce the name of the Watsons’ gin, Renais (which means “rebirth”) — it’s pronounced like “Renée”.
With the photos above, FTHTSI quoted Emma from the interview, talking about her break from acting, which “has been a profound change in her life.” Emma told the magazine: “I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest.”
