NBA legend Charles Barkley has a solution — or at least the start to one — for the trials and tribulations that are consuming the country.
Faced with massive questions and deep suffering due to inequality, systemic racism, LGBTQ discrimination, Me Too, and the Black Lives Matter movements — as well as a global pandemic — US citizens are doing a “lot of yelling and screaming,” according to Barkley.
Barkley’s solution is this. “I want everybody to just shut the hell up for ten seconds.” Barkley’s point is he wants people to listen more than talk. “Let’s just listen to everybody, ” he says.
Barkley’s prescription applies, as he says, “whether you’re white, black, rich, poor, Democrat, Republican, Jewish, Hispanic, woman, man, child.” Barkley says instead of talking, just ask somebody to tell you something.
“Just have some respect for another person during this difficult time.” Barkley wants people to consider how there are people out there who have lost loved ones to the pandemic, to police brutality, or who just are having a hard time mentally.
Take some time, Barkley advises, and find someone who wants to talk and “just listen to them.”
