Top VP candidate Kamala Harris doesn’t want Donald Trump using George Floyd‘s name. At least Harris believes strongly that Trump shouldn’t use Floyd’s now iconic moniker until the POTUS can also utter the words Black Lives Matter. Trump has not acknowledged the movement by name.
Harris was responding to what many saw as Trump’s cavalier use of Floyd’s name in a speech he gave about reopening the economy.
Trump — in what even some of his supporters saw as a tone deaf moment — called the announcement of new reduced unemployment numbers a “great day for” George Floyd.
Floyd, it hardly needs saying, was murdered in Minneapolis by police, with his name subsequently becoming the latest and most powerful symbol yet of racial bias in policing.
