Not only did the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers get a new head coach, Frank Vogel, to guide the impressive lineup of LeBron, Rondo, Antetokounmpo (Kostas), Boogie Cousins, Danny Green, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, et al, but the team also added a number of stellar assistant coaches too — including Jason Kidd and Phil Handy.
When Handy arrived in LA this summer, after leaving Toronto as assistant coach for the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors (he also won an NBA Championship with LeBron in Cleveland), the coach spent time with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant at his Mamba basketball camp for kids.
Handy was impressed with the talent on the court and posed for a picture with Kobe, his 12-year-old daughter Gigi Bryant and fellow player Alyssa Altobelli. Handy, who knows what he’s talking about, referred to the girls as “young killas in the making.”
Kobe visited Handy in Toronto, too (see photo above with Kawhi Leonard). When not cheering on the Lakers, Kobe is coaching Gigi, see video below.
The Lakers play a NBA preseason game at Golden State on Saturday, October 5 at 8 pm on TNT.
