On the Teen Mom OG episode “Ready When You Are,” while Cheyenne Floyd and her young daughter Ryder fly to Baltimore to meet new boyfriend Matt and his family, the cameras follow Maci Bookout to her gynecologist’s office in Chattanooga. Maci says she needs to replace her birth control (Nexplanon*) soon, but she wants to talk to her doctor (Dr. Kirk Brody) about different options first. (*Nexplanon is a contraceptive arm implant that lasts up to three years.)
In the sneak peek video below, the 27-year-old mother of three says she wants to see how her body would react to her PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) without being on birth control. The doctor says with a healthy lifestyle, exercise and good diet “you might be able to control the PCOS.” But she also does not want to get pregnant.
When Maci asks the doctor “Where they at with male birth control?”, Dr. Brody says “they’re working on it” but getting men to take birth control “will be the biggest challenge.” He says, “Men tend to think of that as a women’s responsibility, to take the birth control” and asks if her husband, Taylor McKinney, 30, has considered a vasectomy.
Maci says they’ve talked about it but not at great length. Maci says, “I just don’t want him to do something he’s not ready to do. Teen Mom OG airs Mondays at 9 pm on MTV. [BONUS: Stream any MTV show through the MTV Digital App found here. Download is FREE.]
