The protagonist of the Hallmark movie In the Key Of Love is Maggie Case (Laura Osnes). She’s left her promising singing career in Nashville to run her grandmother Evelyn’s wedding photography business. It’s not as bad as it sounds. Her grandmother’s business is on the idyllic Piedmont Island, where Maggie spent her childhood summers.
And yes, she finds love again — and with her ex-boyfriend, ex singing partner Jake (Scott Michael Foster, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). They make sweet music together again at the wedding of Jake’s sister Jennifer (Andrea Brooks, Supergirl, When Calls the Heart).
In the film, Osnes, a two-time Tony Award nominee (Bonnie and Clyde, Rogers + Hammerstein), falls out of canoe and into a lake with her co-star Foster. Osnes admits that it was her first night scene ever.
It was in Canada, in May at 2 am. “So you can imagine it was cold,” she said in an interview about the film. “I’m such a wuss. I like a heated pool. I don’t even really like the ocean” she says. “So I felt very proud of myself” after the scene.
In the Key of Love premieres on Hallmark Channel on Monday, July 1 at 8 pm.
