The 2019 Hallmark Channel movie Rome in Love is a modern take on the 1953 film Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Peck played an American reporter in Rome who falls in love with (unbeknownst to him) a royal princess played by Hepburn, who won an Oscar for her performance.
In Rome in Love, Italia Ricci (Designated Survivor) plays a small-town girl from America who gets rewarded with a gift to the Eternal City. There she meets a handsome journalist (Peter Porte) who writes for an Italian magazine and has been assigned to interview her. While he shows her around Rome, she’s hesitant to give up details about her life.
Rome in Love was filmed in the five-star Hassler Hotel in Rome and in the actual room where Hepburn stayed while filming Roman Holiday. Ricci said of staying in the hotel room: “It was kind of surreal. The hotel itself is a whole another level of class. It feels like a fairy tale.”
The Hassler Hotel — which his located at the top of the Spanish Steps, offers 66 rooms, 20 suites, and a penthouse overlooking Piazza di Spagna, the Spanish Steps, and the Villa Borghese gardens. Ricci stayed in the San Pietro presidential suite which goes for €6,500 per night, that’s more than $7,000 a night.
Rome in Love premieres on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, July 27 at 9 pm.
