Beyonce fans are protective our the Queen. (Hey Lemonade let them know they better be, right?) So they didn’t like a little seemingly harmless chatter between Jay Z and Nicole Curran courtside during the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena. The Warriors owner’s wife (Curran) had the nerve, the temerity, to talk across — as some fans put it — Beyonce and address Jay Z directly. It was a swift exchange, but Beyonce nation was mad. “How she gonna talk over Beyonce like that?” was the most typical reaction.

But Queen Bey can take care of herself, as people also know. Check out how at the end of this video Beyonce thrusts her left shoulder into the space that Curran’s face was just in — it’s a classic basketball box out, Beyonce style. (In basketball, a rebounder must box out or block out an opponent with their body to secure a rebound.)
The best box out man on the Warriors is the indefatigable All-Star Draymond Green, who thrusts his shoulders to claim his space just the way Beyonce does. That’s my space is the claim being made with the box out shoulder thrust. Beyonce totally reclaims the space by owning it with her body. Beyonce’s got this covered, folks. She blocks out access to Jay Z with true NBA style too.
Note: For his part, Jay Z seems basically to be like yeah yeah great to Curran and goes back to the business of watching Draymond and the Warriors.
