Golden State Warriors forward and 2015 NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala has a new book out. The Sixth Man: A Memoir tells the story of Iguodala’s “life not only as an athlete but about what makes him who he is at his core.”
But beyond Iggy’s own story, he’s also seen as the ultimate insider with knowledge about two of the NBA’s most intriguing free agents this summer — his teammates Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant.
Both Durant and Thompson suffered terrible injuries in the playoffs and both are expected to miss significant time. During a CNBC interview (excerpt below), Iguodala says he believes both players will resign with the Warriors — that all the wild speculation is just that.
The Warriors, having won 3 of the last 5 NBA titles are known to be not just physically tired, but mentally and emotionally weary from the dynasty’s expectations. No player has been under the microscope more than Durant, the superstar who is somehow less appreciated than he should be.
Iguodala says a striking thing during the interview while addressing Durant’s injury, which is expected to force him to miss the entire 2019-20 NBA season. Iguodala tips the great pressure on Durant that exists beyond his injury, actually saying that a year off will be good for Durant. Listen at the 14-second mark, where Iguodala says “KD might miss the whole season but for him it’s good to get away from the game.”
