One day before the grand finale of American Idol, when the winner will be announced (the Top 3 are: Laine Hardy, Madison Vandenburg, and Alejandro Aranda), judge Katy Perry took to social media to address the serious political issue of women’s rights.
Several female celebrities including actress Busy Philips and supermodel Gigi Hadid have been vocal, especially given recent events. Katy Perry has chimed in by sharing a sarcastic sentence with her 81 million followers. The post reads: “The best part of being a woman is the constant fight to be treated better than plastic straws.”
The sentence was written by Kashana Cauley, a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times. Perry added: “sometimes we gotta make a joke about it cause if we didn’t laugh we’d drown from the tears. Good ladies and good men, it’s time to stand up.” The American Idol grand finale airs Sunday, May 19 at 8 pm.
