So many companies want to inspire you while you sit on your butt watching TV. With an iPhone you can do anything, says Apple. With Samsung the world is yours. With a Toyota you can go anywhere and achieve your every desire. Dream big, says pretty much every company ever. Just do it — you know that one, right? Even Coca-Cola tried to teach the whole world to sing. But Taco Bell knows people mostly want to sit on sofas, watch stuff and eat. (Why else Netflix and Seamless and Grubhub?) Just do it? Why don’t you just do it? That is why don’t you bring me my chalupa?
[DeVine is everything in Workaholics]
Taco Bell brilliantly juxtaposes the comedian and actor Adam DeVine, playing a character whose big dreams are about getting his Taco Bell delivered, with ridiculous template scenes from those dime-a-dozen aspirational commercial messages. The self-aware DeVine is perfect in the role, and the face he makes when his dreams come true — and his Taco Bell delivery arrives — is as satisfied and joyous as the face of someone who just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro! Adam DeVine is an actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer, and singer who starred in and helped create Workaholics (see link above), the great Comedy Central series (2011-17). The versatile, lovable DeVine portrayed Bumper in the musical films Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 and Andy in the sitcom Modern Family. “Ummmm, I dream of getting my Taco Bell delivered.” Yup, that’s it. DeVine nails it.
