GOP Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming mocked and trolled Democratic Senator Cory Booker‘s veganism with a tweet that also mocked the animal rights organization PETA. In Cheney’s tweet, she satirized PETA as “PETA – People Eating Tasty Animals” — a slapstick jab at the organization’s name: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Representing Wyoming, Cheney has a big beef constituency of course. But she may not have considered the broad appeal of the real PETA, which counts “lots of Republicans among [its] membership” who loath the “outrageous cruelty” endured by many animals according to a tweet by PETA founder and president Ingrid Newkirk. Newkirk fired back at Cheney: “There are lots of Republicans among our membership who will not be pleased that you are mocking a movement to stop outrageous cruelty in factory farms, transport trucks, and slaughterhouses for animals” before asserting that the animals which “feel every bit [of the pain]” are more sensitive creatures than the congresswoman from Wyoming.
There are lots of Republicans among our membership who will not be pleased that you are mocking a movement to stop outrageous cruelty in factory farms, transport trucks, and slaughterhouses for animals who feel every bit (if not more, apparently) as much as you do. https://t.co/8b5rGChM8N
