There are a number of stellar performances in the Ray Donovan Season 6 episode “Dream On”, and many of them by actors who are senior citizens. 79-year-old Oscar-winner Jon Voight (Coming Home) returns as Ray’s father Mickey Donovan. In one scene, he visits his former sister-in-law Sandy Patrick again (played by 69-year-old Sandy Martin, Napoleon Dynamite).

In another scene, Ray’s daughter Bridget Donovan (Kerris Dorsey) visits Smitty (Graham Rogers) in prison with Doctor Amiot. Dr. Amiot is portrayed by 82-year-old Oscar nominee Alan Alda. The 5-time Primetime Emmy Award winner is best known for his iconic role as Capt. Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce on M*A*S*H.
More recently Alda has had recurring roles on Horace and Pete (Uncle Pete), The Blacklist (Alan Fitch), The Big C (Dr. Atticus Sherman), and The West Wing (Senator Arnold Vinick). Alda is also well recognized for his roles in the films The Aviator (Senator Ralph Owen Brewster, for which he was nominated for an Oscar), Bridge of Spies (Thomas Watters, Jr.), The Four Seasons (Jack), Paper Lion (George Plimpton) and in a number of Woody Allen films including Manhattan Murder Mystery and Crimes and Misdemeanors, among many others.

On a personal note, Alda inspired the Alda Center for Communicating Science, which was founded in 2009 at Stony Brook University. Its mission is to help scientists learn to communicate more effectively with the public, including policymakers, students, funders and the media. Alda recently launched the podcast Clear+Vivid, which also explores all the ways in which people communicate with each other. In July 2018, Alda revealed publicly that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015. Ray Donovan airs Sundays at 9 pm on Showtime.
