In the S.W.A.T. episode “Never Again”, there have been several diamond heists throughout the city of Los Angeles. As the team tries to determine the next diamond dealer to be robbed by the thieves, Hondo (Shemar Moore) is emotionally affected by a suspect’s death during the case. He turns to his mother, Charice, for comfort. He confides in her, “Sometimes it’s hard carrying out certain aspects of my job and still be the man you raised me to be.”

Hondo’s mother Charice is portrayed by triple threat Debbie Allen. As an actress Allen is known for her roles on Grey’s Anatomy (Dr. Catherine Avery), Fame (dance teacher Lydia Grant), and in films including Ragtime (Sarah), among others. As a producer, she’s known for her work behind the cameras on the set of A Different World and the 1997 Steven Spielberg film Amistad, again, among others. She is the sister of actress Phylicia Rashad and wife of former NBA basketball player Norm Nixon. Oh, and she’s been nominated for two Tony Awards – for West Side Story (1980) and Bob Fosse’s Sweet Charity. S.W.A.T. airs Thursdays at 10 pm on CBS, right after Murphy Brown.
