In the new season premiere of Murphy Brown, “Fake News,” shrewd TV news reporter Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen) returns to the airwaves (“Murphy in the Morning”) and brings her old FYI news team with her including Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford), Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto), and producer Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud). And yes, the crew still unwinds at Phil’s Bar, although it’s now run by Phil’s sister, Phyllis, who likes to dye her short white hair different colors.

Phyllis is portrayed by Broadway star Tyne Daly. She’s known for her TV roles on Judging Amy (mother/social worker Maxine Gray), Cagney & Lacey (NYPD Detective Mary Beth Lacey), and in a variety of films over the years including the 2017 Spider-Man: Homecoming (Anne Marie Hoag) and the 1976 Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry movie The Enforcer (Kate Moore). Fun fact: Daly is the big sister of Madam Secretary actor Tim Daly (husband/philosopher Henry McCord). Murphy Brown airs Thursdays at 9:30pm on CBS, right after Mom, and right before S.W.A.T.
