In the new season premiere of Murphy Brown, “Fake News,” Candice Bergen reprises her role as shrewd TV news reporter Murphy Brown. After a few years of retirement (which she hated), Brown decides to launch a new talk show, “Murphy in the Morning.” With her on the set are two of her old FYI news colleagues Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford) and Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto). And yes, producer Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud) is behind the camera, too. A new character being to this classic TV show is Murphy’s adult son Avery. He’s following in his mother’s footsteps (journalism) but he works at the conservative Wolf Network and in the time slot against his mother’s new show. As Bergen says of the relationship, “It’s a good-natured competition, until it’s not.”

Murphy Brown’s son Avery is portrayed by Jake McDorman. He’s known for his roles on Limitless (Brian Finch), Manhattan Love Story (Peter), Are You There, Chelsea? (Rick Miller), Greek (Evan Chambers), and the Fox comedy Quintuplets with Andy Richter (one of the teen quintuplets, Parker Chase), among others. Murphy Brown airs Thursdays at 9:30pm on CBS, right after Mom, and right before S.W.A.T.
