Many of the characters from the original Murphy Brown return for the 21st century reboot. Candice Bergen reprises her role as the tenacious TV reporter who launches her own talk show, “Murphy in the Morning” with her old FYI news colleagues Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford) and Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto). But one of the most beloved characters on the show is missing: Murphy’s eccentric house painter turned nanny, Eldin.

Eldin was portrayed by Robert Pastorelli, who passed away in 2004 from an accidental heroin overdose. He was 49. Prior to Murphy Brown, Pastorelli was recognized for his roles in the films Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (Joey Bustamente), Dances with Wolves (Timmons), and Beverly Hills Cop 2 (Vinnie), among others. Pastorelli’s last project was the 2005 film Be Cool (see link above), the Get Shorty sequel starring John Travolta and Uma Thurman based on the Elmore Leonard novel. Pastorelli played Joe Loop. Murphy Brown airs Thursdays at 9:30pm on CBS, right after Mom, and right before S.W.A.T.
