‘Survivor’ Goliaths Alec, 24, and Angelina, 28, Live In Same Surfer Town
Survivor returns to the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji for Season 37. On the premiere episode “Appearances Are Deceiving,” the 20 new castaways are introduced and divided into two tribes — it’s David vs. Goliath. While the “Davids” have overcome adversity in their lives, the “Goliaths” use individual advantages (good looks, fame, wealth, privilege) against opponents.
[Listen to Tom Waits singing about San Clemente]
Two of the members of the Goliath tribe live in the same town: Alec Merlino, the 24-year-old bartender, and Angelina Keely is the 28-year-old financial consultant, both live in San Clemente, California. The city of San Clemente (population 63,522) is in Orange County. It’s on the coast, between Los Angeles and San Diego. The city’s slogan is “Spanish Village by the Sea,” and it’s a major surfing destination. To give you an idea of the population: the median age is 38, and the media household income is $87,184. It’s also where President Richard Nixon lived and hosted world leaders at the “Western White House,” which recently had an asking price of $63.5 million. (Plan a trip to San Clemente here.)
Another fun fact about San Clemente: it’s mentioned in the Tom Waits song “Diamonds on My Windshield” from his 1974 album The Heart of Saturday Night, #399 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8pm on CBS.
