SpiritHoods is a line of fashionable and funky animal hats made of fake fur (acrylic). The head looks like a head of an animal — coyote, wolf, snow leopard, fox, etc. – and is connected to long sleeves and paws that hang to one’s hips. The paws work like pockets to store cash, credit cards, phone, etc. Two of the founders, Chase Hamilton and Alexander Mendeluk, pitched SpiritHoods on Shark Tank in December 2013. They went into the Tank seeking an investment of $450,000 in exchange for 15 percent. They received an offer from Daymond John (who wanted expand the brand beyond hats and to license the brand) but he also wanted 50 percent equity — which Hamilton and Mendeluk declined.
