Fire Avert is a fire prevention device that plugs into your kitchen stove. Through smoke alarm sound detection, FireAvert can turn the stove off before the stove catches on fire. (Electric stoves are the #1 cause of home fires.) The inventor of Fire Avert, firefighter/paramedic Peter Thorpe of Provo City, Utah, pitched his business on Shark Tank in January 2016. He went into the Tank seeking a $300,000 investment in exchange for seven percent equity. He made a deal with Lori Greiner — $300,000 for a 10 percent royalty to $400,000, with 10 percent equity.
Since Shark Tank, Thorpe has developed two new Fire Avert products — one for 110V outlets, the other for gas stoves.
