PupBox is a monthly subscription box that includes customized treats and toys and training tips for new pet owners/parents. The content of the boxes changes with the development of the puppy. The founders of PupBox, Ben and Ariel Zvaifler of San Diego, California, pitched their pet company business on Shark Tank in November 2016. They went into the Tank seeking a $250,000 investment in exchange for 10 percent equity. And yes, they brought in adorable puppies to woo the Sharks, and it worked. Dog lover Robert Herjavec made them an offer: $250k for 15 percent, and they accepted.
Just one year after Shark Tank, in November 2017, PupBox was acquired by Petco. The two companies launched the first-ever PupBox Holiday Box around the time of the announcement. Ben and Ariel Zvaifler and the rest of the PupBox staff joined Petco, which operates more than 1500 locations in the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico.
