On the Season 14 premiere of The Voice, a 17-year-old named Britton Buchanan kicked off the Blind Auditions with a bang. While performing the Ray LaMontagne song “Trouble” with his acoustic guitar, three coaches hit their buzzers — Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton. It was the first time the new Blocked button had been used. (Each coach gets to block another coach just once.) Blake Shelton decided to use his right away to keep Adam from wooing the teen to his team. He didn’t admit to it at first (it could’ve been Alicia), but then he fessed up to prove to Britton how much he wants him on his team. In a great twist, Britton chooses Alicia Keys.
After the audition, Blake Shelton teases rookie Kelly Clarkson about not hitting her buzzer. “Quit shaming me!” Kelly yells at her old friend. Keep in mind: it was the first Blind Audition of the season! Don’t worry: Kelly hit the buzzer a number of times. She added 3 singers to her team that night: Brynn Cartelli, the 14-year-old from Massachusetts, cancer survivor D.R. King with the “explosive voice”, and country singer Justin Kilgore. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
