Kim Yo-Jon, the 31-year-old sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, is in the news for being part of the North Korean delegation at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChange, South Korea. She is said to be very influential in the North Korean leadership — that is to Kim Jong-un — and she has her brother’s ear. The role Kim Yo-Jon plays has been likened to the role Ivanka Trump plays for her father Donald, a close sounding board related by blood and a trustworthy source.

The Winter Olympics delegation visit is reportedly the first by any member of the North Korean dynastic family to South Korea. It is believed Kim Yo-Jon was born in 1987, which would have made her 24 years old at the time of her father’s death, near the average age of a Winter Olympian. (The U.S. is said to have an “old” Olympic team with an average age of 27.) Kim Jong-il, father of both Kim Jong-un and Kim Yo-Jon, held the highest office in North Korea (officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the DPRK) from 1997 until his death in 2011. He was known as “Dear Leader.” He succeeded his father Kim Il-sung. who was called “The Great Leader.”
