In the second episode of The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. puts on his finest navy blue t-shirt and dark denim jeans to meets 15 of the women who are vying for his affection at a dirt racetrack. The ladies compete in “a rip-roaring demolition derby” while The Bachelor host Chris Harrison and professional race car driver Robby Gordon give the play-by-play commentary. Keep in mind, Arie used to be a Formula One race car driver, driving fast just like his father Arie Luyendyk, Sr., who won the Indianapolis 500 twice.

Most of the women have fun driving around the racetrack but not Annaliese. The 32-year-old event planner from San Mateo, California breaks down in tears and claims the experience was traumatic. Arie is there to console her but what Annaliese needs is a strong character like Oscar-winner Tom Hanks‘ Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own (see link above) to yell at her: “There’s no crying in race car driving!” (Hanks famously implored his team with a similary line in the movie: “There’s no crying in baseball!”) The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8pm on ABC, for two whole hours.
