In The Goldbergs episode “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Erica (Hayley Orrantia) tells her mother Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) she‘s going to spend the first night of Hanukkah with Geoff (Sam Lerner) and his family, the Schwartzs. That does not sit well with Bev. She reacts by putting on her best bedazzled menorah sweater and reignites a competition over who hosts the best Hanukkah party.
Geoff’s father, eye doctor Lou Schwartz is played by Ken Lerner (Sam’s real life father!). Ken Lerner is known for his roles on Chicago Hope (Attorney Jonathan Saunders), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Principal Bob Flutie), Beverly Hills, 90210 (Jerry Korman), and Happy Days (Rocco Baruffi), among many many others. Lerner is also recognized for his roles in the films including RoboCop 2 (Delaney) and Any Which Way You Can (Tony Paoli Jr.). P.S. Geoff’s mother Linda Schwartz is portrayed by Mindy Sterling (Frau Farbissina in the Austin Powers movies). The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8pm on ABC.
