In the Young Sheldon episode “Poker, Faith, and Eggs,” Sheldon’s father George Sr. (Lance Barber) is rushed to the hospital. While poker playing grandmother Meemaw (Annie Potts!) comes to babysit the kids (she’s not the greatest influence on the kids btw), 9-year-old Sheldon’s perspective on faith is shaken. When taken to church, during Pastor Hodgins’ sermon, Sheldon exclaims, “Kaboom!”

Pastor Hodgkins is portrayed by Matt Hobby. He’s known for his roles on The Grinder (Pat Landry), Mom (Chip), Hart of Dixie (Rudy Truitt), and Boardwalk Empire (butler Philip Thompson, see photo below), among others. Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8:30pm on CBS, right after The Big Bang Theory.
