In the Speechless episode “B-R-I– BRITISH I-N-V—INVASION,” the DiMeo family hosts Thanksgiving dinner at their house. Maya’s (Minnie Driver) pretentious mother Andrea (guest star Holland Taylor) shows up from England, and Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) brings his father “The Colonel” to the dinner.
Kenneth’s father is portrayed by Keith David. He’s known for his roles in the films Platoon (King), Bird (Buster Franklin), Something About Mary (Mary/Cameron Diaz’s father), Crash (Lt. Dixon), Clockers (Andre the Giant), and Reality Bites (Roger), among many others. He’s currently starring in the TV series Greenleaf (Bishop Greenleaf, see photo below). Fun fact: David got his big TV break on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in 1983 as Keith the Handyman. Speechless airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm on ABC, right after The Goldbergs, and right before Modern Family.
