America’s Got Talent is live as usual for the second week of the AGT Season 12 semi-finals, but the performers waiting at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood will have an extra hour to be nervous about their performances this week. The reason for the extra hour should put their jitters in perspective, however. The AGT semi-finals will go on air at 9pm Eastern Time instead of its regular 8pm slot because the network has made room at 8pm for the Hand in Hand Hurricane Relief telethon. The Hand in Hand benefit will showcase some of America’s already established talent — the likes of Leo DiCaprio, Dave Matthews, Justin Bieber, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Beyonce to name just a few of the dozens. The stars, live from Texas with country star George Strait and also from Los Angeles and New York, will ask Americans to donate to help relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and Hurricane Irma hit Florida.
Simon Cowell and company should be in a sober mood when America’s Got Talent gets going, but expect the performers to bring the same kind of passion and fellow-feeling to AGT as the headliners bring to Hand in Hand. The 9pm America’s Got Talent start — and the reason for it — will be just a little extra inspiration. Here are the 11 performers trying to make it to the Finals. Americans will choose five of them to go through.
