The Bookmark has launched an interactive 3D animated tour of the USS Zumwalt, the most technologically advanced surface ship in the world. The Zumwalt is the US Navy’s new multi-purpose stealth missile destroyer. The warship features a futuristic, inward-sloping “tumblehome” hull and backswept bow, both of which contribute to its low radar profile. The ship measures two football fields and can carry two choppers and two attack boats, but it has the radar signature of a 50-foot fishing vessel.
The Zumwalt packs two rocket-assisted, GPS-guided Advanced Gun System turrets with infinite ammo feed. Inside, a commercial-sized data center and multi-systems automation cut crew requirements in half. The destroyer has 80 missile bays that launch surface-to-surface, surface-to-air and anti-ballistic missiles. The Navy is even researching future weaponry including railguns and lasers. Zumwalt is a whole new class of next-generation destroyer. The first person to lead the USS Zumwalt—believe it or not—was a Captain James Kirk, who was succeeded by Captain Scott Tait. Take the interactive tour of the USS Zumwalt on the Bookmark blog. Get a 360º look at the ship, see inside, and explore its futuristic design, systems and weaponry.
