Grammy Award winning musician Alicia Keys is known for being an outstanding singer, songwriter, pianist, composer and, now coach, thanks to her time on The Voice. Chris Blue, one of the four finalists on the show, can attest to that.

For The Voice Live Finale, Alicia has Chris Blue performing with Usher. Together they will sing the 1993 song “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. (It’s not the first time the song has been performed on The Voice. In 2015, Pharrell’s team sang it together, see below.) In the liner notes of the album In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck wrote about the song: “the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers”, and “I’ve never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me.” Fun fact: The string arrangement of “Everybody Hurts” was written by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. The Voice Live Finale airs Tuesday, May 23 at 8pm on NBC.
