The ESPN series Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL, Solomon Thomas of Stanford gets the star treatment. If predictions are right, Thomas should continue getting the star treatment for a long time to come. But that’s the thing the makes Hey Rookie so dramatic, you never know. Success is a fickle mistress, especially in the NFL where everyone is just an injury away from the end.
Solomon Thomas is on Hey Rookie because this defensive end’s potential is off the charts. His combine numbers are data dreams: at 6’3″, 273 pounds Thomas turned in a short shuttle time of 4.28 seconds. That’s elite among defensive linemen, where his 4.71-second 40 is pretty sharp too. Solomon also sports a 35-inch vertical. But his opponents weren’t looking at the stats when they voted to give Thomas the Pac-12 2016 Morris Trophy. They were relating what it was like to play against the man. The Morris Trophy goes to a defensive lineman that opposing offensive linemen in the conference believe is the best. If you convince your enemy that you’re the best, you’ve done your job. Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm on ESPN.
