Valerie Ponzio of El Paso, Texas is the self-described “lovely Latina country singer” on The Voice Season 12. For her Blind Audition, Valerie wears a memorable yellow dress and receives a kiss from Gwen Stefani (which she’s calling #Gwiss). While Valerie (she’s using the hashtag #ValPal) has a lot to celebrate on The Voice, she is also grateful for the moment and remembers who helped her get here. Even those who are no longer physically with her.

Valerie’s big brother Bruce “Randy” Ponzio died in 2011. He was a musician, too. The 35-year-old father of three was making music in Vancouver at the time of his death. “I’m so grateful I get to share his talent, beauty, and huge influence on my life musically and beyond.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
