Devin Booker‘s Phoenix Suns lost 130-120 to a Celtics team that actually has a better scoring guard than Booker in Isaiah Thomas, but it hardly mattered. Sometimes the spectacle of a crazy great individual performance overshadows everything, even in a team game. Booker, scoring 70 points, just had one of those nights. That’s 49 points above his average.
Booker’s third quarter highlights — he scored 23 — are in the video below. Only six players in NBA history have scored 70 or more points in a game: Wilt Chamberlain (six times!), Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor — and now Devin Booker. The most Michael Jordan ever scored was 69 — and he needed overtime against Cleveland in 1990. (Jordan had 18 rebounds in that game, too.) The 6’6″ Booker is just 20 years old and playing in his second NBA season after a stop at the University of Kentucky.
