Some “lost” Mr. Rogers episodes have reportedly surfaced — episodes that describe the perils of PBS losing government funding. It’s timely of course, given the Trump administration’s determination to get public broadcasting off its books. But nothing new is needed from Mr. Rogers on the subject. He already gave one of the most moving and convincing testimonies in history. And it’s on the congressional record.
Try not to be moved as Mr. Rogers persuades Senator Pastore of the importance of his show for American youth. (Pastore said Rogers’ testimony gave him “goosebumps.”) Rogers makes a compelling case that our culture can only remain strong if we protect, encourage, and positively influence its most vulnerable citizens — children.
