Jane The Virgin took a big risk when it killed off its most popular character not named Jane — Michael, played to perfection by the charismatic Brett Dier. The move was so devastating to some fans that Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman wrote a letter to fans explaining the sad choice while extolling Dier’s special gifts and all he brought to the character.
Still fans have had withdrawal symptoms, as shown in the outpouring below. Meanwhile Dier is using his popularity — combined with his highly evolved sense of human decency — and promoting the philanthropic organization Save the Food, which wants to stop the heartbreaking food waste going on around us constantly. Save the Food is Dier’s major profile link on Twitter. Class act. You can get first hand interaction with Dier too — Dier does Skype calls for fans who have become known as “Brettlings” — a group that’s grateful for his charm and optimism, as you’ll see:
Gina is amazing and the #janethevirgin cast is too but @Brettdier honestly left a huge void that cannot be filled #brettlings
