Top Trump aide and campaign mastermind Kellyanne Conway has issued two statements that have damaged her credibility in the last two weeks — even among supporters. The first was the famous mention of “alternative facts” — an idea that seems to represent the ultimate oxymoron. Next Conway told a story about the alleged “Bowling Green Massacre” in which she blamed President Obama‘s lax immigration enforcement for a bloody event that actually never happened. Conway later said she “misspoke” about the so-called massacre.
The mainstream media has had a difficult time battling the “alternative facts” universe of Conway. But this weekend the media may have found a technique that works — don’t give Conway a microphone. Conway said family matters prevented her from appearing on CNN’s State of the Union show this weekend. But CNN — making a distinction between facts and alternative facts — replied that the White House offered Conway for Sunday’s show, but CNN declined the opportunity to put her on the air. Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC’s Morning Joe implied that MSNBC passed on Conway too.
. @KellyannePolls was offered to SOTU on Sunday by the White House. We passed. Those are the facts.
