On June 29, 2015, 46-year-old Bonita Springs, Florida physician Dr. Teresa Sievers was found dead in her home. She had been bludgeoned to death with a hammer. (She was hit 17 times in the head.) Although her husband was out of town, he is now facing the death penalty as he has been accused of hiring a man to murder his wife. Mark Sievers’ friend Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. has confessed to murdering the doctor. Wright is expected to testify at Sievers’ trial in February 2017.
According to WINK News, in December 2016 Sievers’ attorney said his client “can’t afford his legal fees and that he will appoint a lead counsel who’s death penalty qualified.” Prosecutors say Sievers’ motive to have Teresa Siever killed was her life insurance policies which are worth $4.43 million. 48 Hours investigates the death of Dr. Teresa Sievers on Saturday, February 18 at 10pm on CBS.
