There are nearly 3,000 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which might make you think fame ain’t all that special. But given the number of people who aim for stardom, it’s a slim number who get memorialized. You might be surprised at some of the names — but one thing’s for sure: they all played the game. Played differently perhaps, but nobody is enshrined on that famous sidewalk because they didn’t want the world to pay attention to them. That kind of ambition makes for strange bedfellows sometimes. But let’s be clear: most of the people with Hollywood stars have more in common with each other than with everyday working class Americans.
Take two recent Twitter bickerers, the great film actress Meryl Streep and rogue political mastermind and (former?) reality TV star Donald Trump. Streep’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is at 7018 Hollywood Blvd. Donald Trump’s star is at 6803 Hollywood Blvd. That means the two stars are 0.2 miles away from each other. That’s a club. You’re not in it. They are.
