Saying he was “embarrassed” by the US presidential campaign, popular VP Joe Biden forgave the media saying “it wasn’t your fault” that Hillary Clinton didn’t get her ideas heard. Biden thought the campaign lacked dignity, and the VP especially regretted that the battle lines were drawn largely between the two outsize personalities — Trump and Clinton — rather than between ideas. “It wasn’t that [CLinton] didn’t have all these ideas. She did. But the press, you didn’t cover it,” Biden told a group at NYU Global Academic Center in Washington.
But Biden said the media wasn’t at fault for not making ideas more central to the campaign. Biden admitted that the media’s position was dictated by a candidate who essentially hijacked the news, leaving little room for nuanced “idea”-based dialog amidst the daily drama being manufactured. Biden said, “When a guy talks about grabbing a woman’s private parts, when a guy says some of the incredibly outrageous things that were said, it sucks up all the oxygen in the air.”
