Louis Daniel Smith of Spokane, Washington was found guilty of “introducing misbranded drugs with intent to defraud or mislead” by selling MMS, Miracle Mineral Supplement. MMS is a mixture of sodium chlorite (an industrial chemical used as a pesticide) and water. As Ben Mizer of the U.S. Department of Justice says, “You wouldn’t drink Clorox, so there is no reason you should drink MMS.” In November 2015, Smith was sentenced to 51 months in prison. (He will be released in 2020).
Eight months prior to his sentence, Smith made the video below for his supporters. He says, “Right now, there are people suffering in the world who don’t need to be suffering. And you have the answer.” He says it’s up to his followers to “do what you need to do to make change where you are at.” He suggests to “go to other countries that need our help. Provide a solution for them. You have the solution. It’s there, it’s in front of you. It’s not what people have made it out to be. And you know that now. There’s good evidence.” ABC 20/20 will air its investigative report of MMS on Friday, October 28 at 10pm.
