“King of All Media” Howard Stern found himself mentioned at the first presidential debate, a moment the radio legend said he found “surreal.” GOP candidate Donald Trump mentioned Stern as the media source for Trump’s alleged support of the American invasion of Iraq. Trump was on Stern’s show in 2002, when Stern asked him what he thought of the invasion. (Trump, according to Stern, was “kinda for it.”)
As Stern explained on his show, subsequent headlines about the Trump-Stern Iraq exchange have made “a picture of me and Trump in an adversarial-type situation.” Citing CNN’s big story, Stern said: “I said nothing new.” Stern said he hoped to clear things up (maybe before Trump puts him in Rosie O’Donnell territory). “And so I emailed Trump,” Stern said, “and I wanted to explain to him that [‘Trump backed Iraq War in 2002’] is not what I said.”
