Phil Black is the creator of FitDeck, a deck of playing cards that are designed to make exercise “convenient and fun” with an accompanying app. The entrepreneur from San Diego, California pitched his product/business on Shark Tank in 2014. While he didn’t get a deal, the Sharks were so impressed with Black and his background – he graduated from Yale and Harvard Business School, was a Navy SEAL officer and an investment banker with Goldman Sachs, while also a firefighter and father of four boys – that they said he can come back any time with a new product/business.

After his appearance on Shark Tank, Black sold FitDeck “to a fast-growing consumer products company” and founded PrepWell Academy. PrepWell is an online mentoring program for high school students “that uses the college admissions process as its model for instruction.” As the teacher, Black shares his “strategies and zeal that helped him achieve success in the most competitive, selective, and elite organization in the world.” There are four plans available: basic, athlete, military, bundle. Monthly subscriptions vary by plan ($14.95 – $24.95).
