Zaevion Dobson was 15 years old, a sophomore student and football player at Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, when he died a hero. On December 17, 2015, while celebrating the holidays outside with friends, Dobson “jumped on top of three girls to shield them from a drive-by shooting. The girls were not injured. In January, President Obama praised Zaevion during a tearful speech as he spoke about his executive action to impose stricter gun control laws.
The late heroic teen will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards 2016 which will be televised on Wednesday, July 13 at 8pm on ABC. Zaevion’s mother Zenobia Dobson and his two brothers will accept the award in Zaevion’s honor.
