Performer Step Raptis of Mesa, Arizona is the founder of the dance/percussion troupe “Step’s Junk Funk.” They will audition on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent. Raptis first started making music with his body and found objects in the late 1970s while living in New York City, where he worked at NYU’s Tisch School of Dance.
Step’s Junk Funk uses everything from garbage cans to kitchen sinks. In September, the troupe performed at TEDx FountainHills (see video below). For that show the troupe made music with plastic patio furniture, metal tea kettles, and Step’s signature kitchen sink which he carries around like a marching bass drum. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
