Yale University has seen the infamous House Bill 2 in North Carolina — and it thinks otherwise. At once one of the nation’s most traditional and most innovative universities, Yale has plans to create gender neutral restrooms to 23 of its buildings. Among other salutary effects of the move, Bruce Springsteen and Adam Levine can play concerts in New Haven now. (Both acts cancelled shows in North Carolina.)
Unable to resist its Ivy League communication style, Yale used academic jargon to describe the change. AP quotes Yale’s Dean of Arts and Sciences, Tamar Gendler, saying that “part of what is important about the all-gender bathroom project and about putting it at the top of our commencement site, is this is about public signaling.” Public signaling, btw, basically means letting people know.
