Me Before You is a heart-wrenching, heart-breaking, heart-warming story that wanted to be a movie probably before author Jojo Moyes finished the first page. The tale takes on a new visual existence when it hits theaters in May, with Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. But Moyes’ tale of opposites — that old trope reworked beautifully — is already visually imprinted on the minds of the more than 3 million people who read her 2012 novel. As the book promo puts it: “What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?” Who can help but want to find out?
Readers (and moviegoers) who love the world Moyes creates are a lucky bunch, because the former journalist has written at least 13 books. And each one knows where your heartstrings are hanging. Bonus: Moyes is funny — and heartbreak is always best with a dash of humor, after all. Here are Moyes’ other books. Read some of them and you may understand why, on Twitter, Moyes describes herself as a Catastrophist.
