Ariet Girgis was 55 years old when she was brutally murdered in her Orange County home. Her husband of 24 years, Magdi Girgis, was convicted of hiring two people to commit the murder. He was facing domestic violence charges which would result in losing his medical license, and a costly divorce was imminent.
The Girgis’ two sons — Ryan and Richard — were present at their father’s sentencing. Richard spoke to his father: “I forgive you dad for all that you have done to me and Ryan. Confess, repent.” But his father refused. Before receiving his life sentence without parole, Magdi Girgis declared in court, “You are about to sentence an innocent man,” he said. “And God is my witness. I had nothing to do with the killing of my wife.” Dateline Saturday Night Mystery will airs its investigative report “The Man Who Wasn’t There” on April 9 at 8pm on NBC.
