A Tampa man who goes by the name Peter Shatner insists he is William Shatner’s son, the product of a one-night stand between the actor who played Captain Kirk and Kathy Burt, Peter’s late mother. Peter Shatner’s legal name is Peter Sloan. Sloan/Shatner says his mother told him she was certain he was the son of Shatner, though the paternity was complicated by the fact that she slept with another man just days after sleeping with Shatner.
Shatner, through his publicist, denies the claim, saying his has three daughters but no sons. No DNA test has been done to determine the veracity of the paternity claim. Peter Sloan was adopted and reconnected with his mother in 1984, according to the Tampa Bay Tribune. Sloan’s half-brother through his mother, Charles McNeil, believes the claim. “My mother had no reason to lie,” McNeil contends. But $170 million, for some people, is a reason to lie — that’s what Sloan is seeking from Shatner, according to Page Six.
